Whitehope is a home for three young people in the middle of the countryside, not far from Selkirk and Galashiels. It’s a big house, with a garden full of apple trees and room to grow vegetables – but doesn’t feel so big when it’s full of laughter. The care team are enthusiastic and full of energy, encouraging outdoor activities and adventures. The centre of the house is definitely the kitchen. We all get involved in cooking, making a wide range of fresh foods. Our recipe folder is always growing. We have two big living rooms and a computer room, so there is always room to find a space for yourself, and we are building a collection of games.

It’s good being here, especially now that I have started making friends. The care team have helped me a lot with my anger. If it wasn’t for them, I feel I wouldn’t have improved. And they’re caring.

I love coming to work in the morning. There is always something going on and we get on well with the young people.

I think it’s a really good place to work. We have a really good team, with diverse skills and we are good at building on our strengths. Sometimes, it doesn’t feel like I am at work.
