When Rachael first stepped into residential childcare, she had no idea how much it would shape her life.
Before joining Care Visions, Rachael worked as a nursery nurse, but the routine left her clock-watching and craving something more. It was a leap into the unknown, but it turned out to be the start of a decade-long journey.
“I didn’t actually think I was going to get the job because I was so young,” Rachael recalls. “But I needed a new challenge, and something about working with young people just felt right.”
The early days weren’t easy. Fitting into a close-knit team took time, but as Rachael built relationships with her colleagues and the young people in her care, she discovered a sense of family and belonging that kept her coming back.
“The staff become like family,” she says. “And seeing the kids grow and thrive, that’s what makes it all worthwhile.”
Rachael’s skills in makeup have become a unique asset in her role. She uses her qualifications to help young people learn about skincare and how makeup can be a tool for self-care and confidence. These small lessons, she believes, can have a big impact on how young people see themselves and the world around them.
For Rachael, every day is different, and that’s exactly what she loves. Whether it’s supporting a young person through a tough night, celebrating their successes, or simply sharing a laugh, Rachael knows she’s helping to shape brighter futures, one moment, one lesson, and one connection at a time.
