A Letter From 'D' (and the replies)

When D moved into a Care Visions residential home at the age of 13, he was entering an unfamiliar chapter of his life. Years later, as he prepared to move into his own flat, he wanted to reflect on his experience and share a message with the people who had supported him along the way.

In a letter written in his own words, D talks openly about his journey, from the challenges of settling into a new home and school to discovering his interests, finding an apprenticeship and gaining his independence.

Above all, he highlights the importance of relationships. The connections he built with the staff around him became a lasting source of support, encouragement and belonging, extending well beyond his time living in the home.

His letter also prompted heartfelt replies from two members of the team, Lee and Callum, who share their own memories and reflections on the journey they have taken together.

As we mark Care Experienced Week and this year's theme, 'Forward to the Future', D's story offers a powerful reminder of what can be achieved when young people are listened to, supported and given opportunities to flourish.
